Department of Economic Analysis
University of the Basque Country (UPV/EHU)
Bilbao LABEAN (Bilbao LABoratory of Experimental ANalysis) is a research team and service associated with the Department of Economic Analysis at the University of the Basque Country (UPV/EHU).
Founded by Professor José Ramón Uriarte in 2009, the institute currently brings together a team of researchers interested in applying experimental methodology to problems of socioeconomic interest (see the publications associated to the lab).
What we do
At Bilbao LABEAN, we design and conduct controlled laboratory experiments, a methodology that has become a fundamental tool for economic research. Our experiments allow us to analyze how people make decisions, how they interact in strategic contexts, and how collective outcomes are formed in markets, organizations, and societies.
Research topics range from basic questions in decision theory to complex phenomena such as cooperation, competition, and coordination in market environments. We seek to generate rigorous knowledge about the limits of human rationality and provide quantitative evidence that enriches economic theory.
Infrastructure and Services
The laboratory has 45 networked computer workstations and four servers managed from a control room. It is part of the scientific infrastructure of the UPV/EHU and is open to any research group or researcher who wishes to work with experimental and behavioral economics methods.
